COLOURS OF LIFE IN A BABY'S EYE
This is a macro shot of the eye of a baby crocodile. There is a lively splash of green, orange, yellow and brown in the baby's eye. This vitality of colours brings this shot to life.

Shutter Speed: 1/20s
Focal length: 60-360mm

EXTREME MACRO OF A GARDEN LIZARD
This is an extreme macro (close-up) shot of a  garden lizard species resting on a tree.

MOUNTAIN LIZARD
This is photograph of a very spectacular lizard. Notice its brownish upper body with typical diamond like patterns along its spine. What's more, its lower body and legs, and tail are all black. This lizard too, can change its colour.

Aperture: f/4.3
Shutter Speed: 1/60s
Focal length: 60-360mm

ORIENTAL GARDEN LIZARD
This is a colour changing lizard resting on fresh green leaves in search of some prey. The macro shot clearly shows the intricate scales on it typical of any reptile, and sharp spines along its back, probably for the lizard's protection from its predators.

Aperture: f/4.3
Shutter Speed: 1/200s
Focal length: 60-360mm
Camera: Canon Power Shot SX 100 IS (hand held)
Location: Satpura biosphere reserve, Madhya Pradesh

MOUNTAIN LIZARD WITH INJURED TAIL
This is a Mountain Lizard, probably of the same species as the brownish Mountain lizard shown in a photograph above, but with a different colour. It had its tail cut off. Many lizards, upon being trapped by a predator, will voluntarily cut off their tail from their body as a means to escape if they are caught by their long tail. The tail quickly grows again however.

Aperture: f/8
Shutter Speed: 1/30s
Focal length: 60-360mm

Camera: Canon Power Shot SX 100 IS (hand held)
Location: Satpura biosphere reserve, Madhya Pradesh

GARDEN LIZARD ON COW DUNG CAKE
This is a garden lizard resting on a cow dung cake made traditionally in rural Indian houses. The garden lizard had changed its colour to camouflage itself and stood almost lifeless; it was in fact hardly visible from a distance. Staying still and camouflage are the hallmarks of many species in nature.

Shutter Speed: 1/200s
Focal length: 60-360mm

A Garden lizard of the mountainous regions, found very commonly in central India.

GARDEN LIZARD IN THREE COLOURS
This is one of my favourite shots. This photograph captures a lizard in the midst of its colour changing process. The middle portion of the body is grey in synchronicity with grey-silverish portion of the tree trunk; the lower body is green in synchronicity with the green moss growing on the trunk; the upper legs are red to tune to the red colour of the scratched bark (in upper right of the photograph) when the lizard would approach it. This photograph featured in the National Geographic's jury selection of 400 photographs from over one hundred and four thousand photographs submitted by photographers from all over the country to the Nat Geo Moment Awards-2010.

Aperture: f/4.3

EXTREME MACRO SHOT OF ORIENTAL GARDEN LIZARD
This is another extreme close-up of the mouth of an Oriental Garden lizard. Notice the intricate scales on its body, its thorny back and a typical reptilian eye. Also notice how it was smiling at me.....it posed for me, you know(!)

Aperture: f/4.3
Shutter Speed: 1/200s
Focal length: 60-360mm

Camera: Canon Power Shot SX 100 IS (hand held)
Location: Satpura biosphere reserve, Madhya Pradesh

THE CLIMBER FROM THE PAST
A Garden lizard climbing smoothly on a tree trunk. This photograph has a sense of dynamism and motion to it: notice how the lizard appears to be climbing, even in this still shot! Lizards such as these have been on earth since many thousands of years, much before man set his foot on earth. They certainly are glorious survivors from our past.

Aperture: f/4.5
Shutter Speed: 1/40s
Focal length: 60-360mm
Camera: Canon Power Shot SX 100 IS (hand held)
Location: Satpura biosphere reserve, Madhya Pradesh
